Do you ever feel like you are spewing your thoughts, opinions and complaints around on everybody around you? It’s like you are constantly talking, so much so you can’t hear your own internal knowing knocking at the door of your soul. Spirit knocks, but your out there chatting it up like there is no tomorrow. Maybe you actually won’t like what spirit has to say. I can tell you this. If you don’t silence yourself a bit, you will have no one standing next to you. Let’s talk about how to win clients by deepening your wisdom.

Some of the wisest people I have known have been the most quiet. In fact, you would almost pass them by because they don’t need to be noticed or recognized. In fact, they just assume to carry on and do what they do, focused and inspired, quietly. People even seek them out. They are also some of the most reflective people I have known. Their presence is felt rather than heard.

Check it out. Think of the people you respect the most. The people that make you feel bigger, people who you like yourself around.  Think of the people that grow us, that make us rise to our best selves. Usually, they are honest, brave, unafraid of judgement, walk their own walk, take on challenges with a smile, think of others, a reverence for life.

Doesn’t mean these wise people are serious all the time, it means they have a deep mission in life. I’m asking you to take a look in your own life and see if you can recognize your wisdom, your deep mission in life. In order to do that you need to stop talking.  You need to hear what is there. What surfaces in your thought process? What color is it? Does this image bring tears to your eyes, does it bring sadness because you are not living it? No worries, when you begin to tap into this place of recognition, you realize every moment is precious, a deep urgency to get to the work you are supposed to takes center stage.

Harness this energy, get in rhythm with it, let it start to direct your life to the unknown, the unchartered places in your relationships, your salon, your life. Bring this awareness to your clients, your coworkers. Share your wisdom when asked. If you are a parent, it’s a proud moment when your teenager asks you for your advise, as mine did the other day. If you are a solid listener, instead of a talker you learn many things about the people you rub elbows with everyday.

Have you noticed too, that the wise people in your life, you almost here their voice in your head, or you want go back and ask them about what they said. It’s as if each word they do choose has meaning, depth, and great truth. Listen to them, be one of them, and see what you begin to attract in your life.

You will not only be successful, but you will build a solid clientele, and make lots of money. Clients will ask your opinion, coworkers will ask you first what you think. Not that you will begin to be a problem solver, but you give your wisdom and reflect back, without attachment to what is said.

An article by Saj Roin,Effective Listening, states,

“In a Nutshell
Almost everyone sincerely believes that he or she listens effectively.  Consequently, very few people think they need to develop their listening skills.  But, in fact, listening effectively is something that very few of us do.  It’s not because listening effectively is so difficult.  Most of us have just never developed the habits that would make us effective listeners.
Research has found that by listening effectively, you will get more information from the people you manage, you will increase others’ trust in you, you will reduce conflict, you will better understand how to motivate others, and you will inspire a higher level of commitment in the people you manage.”

As defined by Merriam-Webster,

wisdom

noun  wis·dom  \ˈwiz-dəm\

  • knowledge that is gained by having many experiences in life

  • the natural ability to understand things that most other people cannot understand

  • knowledge of what is proper or reasonable : good sense or judgment

Did you notice that the definition does not include giving advice without asking, or talking way more than listening. In order to understand what is going on, you need to listen to what is being said, watch body language, and facial expressions, it is a quiet learning of those around you and the situations that come up daily in salon and spas.

Wisdom is different than intelligence, it comes experience. Pay your due diligence to your career, your craft, your relationships. Walk the fine balance of being engaged with your learning, and extroverted, as well as, introverted and listening more. Watch your life take off in ways you can’t imagine. A quiet stillness, focus and mastery begin to permeate your life.

How to win clients by deepening your wisdom isn’t an over nite exercise, but each time you allow yourself the opportunity to listen and observe, you are one step closer to success.

Hairstylist Tip

Let yourself think before you speak, and ask yourself, “Does it need to be said?” Watch how much better your relationships go, and how people respond to you.
